Lake Powell July 09 with a twist.

Lake Powell this year was an interesting experience for us. By some miracle we were able to get all the way down to Wahweep without a peep from Payden. This was amazing becuase she usually can't even handle the ride from our home to my parent's house. We spent 2 of our 4 days basking in the 100 degree weather and 84 degree water. It was a boaters dream. At the end of the 2nd day we were heading back to the marina when all of the sudden we hear a gut wrenching, boat jerking sound. We looked behind us and saw the beast that had obstructed us. It was a wide rock about 3 feet under the water and impossible to see until we'd already driven into it. In a scramble we paddled to the shore and prepared to start the bail out process. We waved our flag for help and the first people to come to our rescue were some tourist that didn't speak a lick of english. They were driving what could only be considered a glorified canoe with a motor. We waved them on and decided to call 911 for someone to come and tow us out as were were taking in water. In my process of explaining the emergency situation the call was dropped and my signal lost. To our relief, a house boat who had witnessed the hit unloaded their wake board boat and came to our rescue. Two very noble boys hooked us up and towed us to the marina. They even refused our money and offered us an extra prop they had on their boat. Unfortunately the damage was far and beyond just a prop replacement. We pulled the boat on the trailer and decided we would head home that night. After a delicious meal at the Damn Bar and Grill, we said goodbye to Lake Powell. Again, Payden was a gem and slept the whole way home. We were all pretty bent that the trip was cut short, but we knew we were blessed to have come out without any injuries. It was incredible that no one was thrown from the boat. The boat is now in the shop and we are all anxious to get back on the water.
